Bamboo Name Tags, amber color:
New to us in late 2008, we are pleased to now be able to offer our customers Bamboo Name Tags. This bamboo is farm raised, strong, and green.
Available in two colors, this amber color (also called carbonized, or carmelized) is a nice rich color that engraves moderately well. The amber color is the result of the bamboo being "steamed". As the bamboo is heated the sugars in the bamboo carmelize (turn brown). The color is not a stain, but rather a color that is integral to the amber colored bamboo.
The bamboo that we use is shipped to us in sheets 2mm thick. The sheets are made up of many pieces (about 5/8" wide) of bamboo that have been glued together edge to edge into a strong veneer. You can see bamboo nodules in both of the name tag samples below.
- In the top sample you can see the nodule behind the left side of the 'M' in 'Jim'.
- In the bottom sample you see the horizontal jont about 1/4 of the way up the name tag.
We will make every effort to engrave such that the nodules do not interfer with the name on the name tag. However understand that you will most likely have a nodule on your name tag somewhere.
The character of the amber colored bamboo limits it's use for name tags. It does not have a high degree of contrast, does not hold color fill well, and does not show high detail. However, for some name tags amber bamboo is ideal.
